And

ἐν

ταύταις

days,

ἡμέρα

when the number

πληθύνω

of the disciples

μαθητής

was multiplied,

πληθύνω

there arose

γίνομαι

a murmuring

γογγυσμός

of the Grecians

Ἑλληνιστής

against

πρός

the Hebrews,

Ἑβραῖος

because

ὅτι

their

αὐτός

widows

χήρα

were neglected

παραθεωρέω

in

ἐν

the daily

καθημερινός

ministration.

Then

δέ

the twelve

δώδεκα

called

προσκαλέω

the multitude

πλῆθος

of the disciples

μαθητής

unto them, and said,

It is

ἐστί

not

οὐ

reason

ἀρεστός

that we

ἡμᾶς

should leave

καταλείπω

the word

λόγος

of God,

θεός

and serve

διακονέω

tables.

Wherefore,

οὖν

brethren,

ἀδελφός

look ye out

ἐπισκέπτομαι

among

ἐκ

you

ὑμῶν

seven

ἑπτά

men

ἀνήρ

of honest report,

μαρτυρέω

full

πλήρης

of the Holy

ἅγιος

Ghost

πνεῦμα

and

καί

wisdom,

σοφία

whom

ὅς

we may appoint

καθίστημι

over

ἐπί

this

ταύτῃ

business.

χρεία

But

δέ

we

ἡμεῖς

will give ourselves continually

προσκαρτερέω

to prayer,

προσευχή

and

καί

to the ministry

διακονία

of the word.

pleased

ἐνώπιον

the whole

πᾶς

multitude:

πλῆθος

and

they chose

ἐκλέγομαι

Στέφανος

a man

of faith

πίστις

and

of the Holy

ἅγιος

Ghost,

πνεῦμα

Philip,

Φίλιππος

Prochorus,

Πρόχορος

καί

Nicanor,

Νικάνωρ

Timon,

Τίμων

καί

Parmenas,

a proselyte

προσήλυτος

Whom

they set

ἵστημι

before

ἐνώπιον

the apostles:

ἀπόστολος

when they had prayed,

προσεύχομαι

they laid

ἐπιτίθημι

their hands

χείρ

on

ἐπιτίθημι

them.

of God

increased;

αὐξάνω

and

καί

the number

ἀριθμός

of the disciples

multiplied

in

Jerusalem

greatly;

company

ὄχλος

of the priests

were obedient

ὑπακούω

to the faith.

certain

ἐκ

the synagogue,

συναγωγή

which

ὁ

is called

λέγω

the synagogue of the Libertines,

Λιβερτῖνος

and

καί

Cyrenians,

Κυρηναῖος

and

καί

Alexandrians,

Ἀλεξανδρεύς

and

καί

of them of

ἀπό

Cilicia

Κιλικία

and

καί

of Asia,

Ἀσία

disputing

συζητέω

with Stephen.

they were

ἰσχύω

not

οὐ

able

ἰσχύω

to resist

ἀνθίστημι

the wisdom

σοφία

and

καί

the spirit

πνεῦμα

by which

ὅς

he spake.

they suborned

ὑποβάλλω

men,

ἀνήρ

which said,

We have heard

ἀκούω

him

αὐτός

speak

blasphemous

βλάσφημος

words

ῥῆμα

against

εἰς

Moses,

Μωσῆς

and

καί

against God.

they stirred up

συγκινέω

the people,

and

the elders,

πρεσβύτερος

and

καί

the scribes,

γραμματεύς

and

καί

came upon

ἐφίστημι

him, and caught

συναρπάζω

him,

αὐτός

and

καί

brought

ἄγω

him to

εἰς

the council,

συνέδριον

set up

ἵστημι

false

ψευδής

witnesses,

μάρτυς

which said,

λέγω

This

τούτου

man

ἄνθρωπος

ceaseth

παύω

not

οὐ

to speak

λαλέω

blasphemous

βλάσφημος

words

ῥῆμα

against

κατά

this

οὗτος

holy

ἅγιος

place,

τόπος

and

καί

the law:

νόμος

For

γάρ

we have heard

ἀκούω

him

αὐτός

say,

λέγω

that

ὅτι

this

τοῦτον

Jesus

Ἰησοῦς

of Nazareth

Ναζωραῖος

shall destroy

καταλύω

this

οὗτος

place,

τόπος

and

καί

shall change

ἀλλάσσω

the customs

ἔθος

which

ὅς

Moses

Μωσῆς

delivered

παραδίδωμι

us.

ἡμῖν

And

καί

all

ἅπας

that sat

καθέζομαι

in

ἐν

the council,

συνέδριον

looking stedfastly

ἀτενίζω

on

εἰς

him,

αὐτός

saw

οἶδα

his

αὐτός

face

πρόσωπον

as it had been

ὡσεί

the face

πρόσωπον

of an angel.

ἄγγελος
