for to hear

ἀκούω

him.

the Pharisees

Φαρισαῖος

scribes

γραμματεύς

murmured,

διαγογγύζω

saying,

λέγω

This man

ὅτι

οὗτος

receiveth

προσδέχομαι

sinners,

ἁμαρτωλός

and

καί

eateth

συνεσθίω

with them.

αὐτός

And

δέ

he spake

this

ταύτῃ

parable

παραβολή

unto

πρός

them,

αὐτός

saying,

λέγω

What

τίς

man

ἄνθρωπος

of

ἐκ

you,

ὑμῶν

having

ἔχω

an hundred

ἑκατόν

sheep,

πρόβατον

if

καί

he lose

ἀπόλλυμι

one

εἷς

of

ἐκ

them,

αὐτός

doth

καταλείπω

not

οὐ

leave

καταλείπω

the ninety and nine

ἐνενήκοντα

in

ἐν

the wilderness,

ἔρημος

and

καί

go

πορεύομαι

after

ἐπί

that which is lost,

ἀπόλλυμι

until

ἕως

he find

εὑρίσκω

it?

And

καί

when he hath found

εὑρίσκω

it, he layeth

ἐπιτίθημι

it on

ἐπί

his

ἑαυτοῦ

shoulders,

ὦμος

rejoicing.

καί

when he cometh

ἔρχομαι

εἰς

home,

οἶκος

he calleth together

συγκαλέω

his friends

φίλος

and

καί

neighbours,

γείτων

saying

λέγω

unto them,

αὐτός

Rejoice

συγχαίρω

with me;

μοί

for

ὅτι

I have found

εὑρίσκω

my

μοῦ

sheep

πρόβατον

which

ὁ

was lost.

ἀπόλλυμι

I say

λέγω

unto you,

ὑμῖν

that

ὅτι

likewise

οὕτως

joy

χαρά

shall be

ἔσομαι

in

ἐν

heaven

οὐρανός

over

ἐπί

one

εἷς

sinner

ἁμαρτωλός

that repenteth,

μετανοέω

more than

ἤ

over

ἐπί

ninety and nine

ἐνενήκοντα

just persons,

δίκαιος

which

ὅστις

need

ἔχω

χρεία

no

οὐ

repentance.

till

she find

εὑρίσκω

it?

when she hath found

εὑρίσκω

it, she calleth

συγκαλέω

her friends

φίλος

and

καί

her neighbours

γείτων

together,

συγκαλέω

saying,

λέγω

Rejoice

συγχαίρω

with me;

μοί

for

ὅτι

I have found

εὑρίσκω

the piece

δραχμή

which

ὅς

I had lost.

ἀπόλλυμι

Likewise,

οὕτως

I say

unto you,

ὑμῖν

there is

γίνομαι

joy

χαρά

in the presence

ἐνώπιον

of the angels

ἄγγελος

of God

θεός

over

ἐπί

one

εἷς

sinner

ἁμαρτωλός

that repenteth.

the portion

of goods

that falleth

ἐπιβάλλω

to me. And

he divided

διαιρέω

unto them

αὐτός

his living.

many

πολύς

days

ἡμέρα

after

μετά

the younger

νέος

son

υἱός

gathered

συνάγω

all

ἅπας

together,

συνάγω

and took his journey

ἀποδημέω

into

εἰς

a far

μακρός

country,

χώρα

and

καί

there

ἐκεῖ

wasted

διασκορπίζω

his

αὐτός

substance

οὐσία

with riotous

ἀσώτως

living.

And

when he

αὐτός

had spent

δαπανάω

all,

πᾶς

there arose

γίνομαι

a mighty

ἰσχυρός

famine

λιμός

in

that

ἐκεῖνος

land;

χώρα

αὐτός

began

ἄρχομαι

to be in want.

ὑστερέω

he went

πορεύομαι

and joined himself

κολλάω

to

εἷς

a citizen

πολίτης

of that

ἐκεῖνος

country;

χώρα

and

καί

he sent

πέμπω

him

αὐτός

into

εἰς

his

αὐτός

fields

ἀγρός

to feed

βόσκω

swine.

χοῖρος

And

καί

he would fain

ἐπιθυμέω

have filled

γεμίζω

his

αὐτός

belly

κοιλία

with

ἀπό

the husks

κεράτιον

that

ὅς

the swine

χοῖρος

did eat:

ἐσθίω

and

καί

no man

οὐδείς

gave

δίδωμι

unto him.

αὐτός

And

δέ

when he came

ἔρχομαι

to

εἰς

himself,

ἑαυτοῦ

he said,

How many

πόσος

hired servants

μίσθιος

of my

μοῦ

father's

πατήρ

have bread

ἄρτος

enough and to spare,

περισσεύω

and

δέ

I

ἐγώ

perish

ἀπόλλυμι

with hunger!

I will arise

ἀνίστημι

and go

πορεύομαι

to

πρός

my

μοῦ

father,

πατήρ

and

will say

ἐρεῶ

unto him,

Father,

I have sinned

heaven,

οὐρανός

and

καί

before

ἐνώπιον

thee,

σοῦ

no more

οὐκέτι

worthy

ἄξιος

to be called

καλέω

thy

σοῦ

son:

υἱός

make

ποιέω

me

μέ

as

ὡς

one

εἷς

of thy

σοῦ

hired servants.

And

καί

he arose,

ἀνίστημι

and came

ἔρχομαι

to

πρός

his

ἑαυτοῦ

father.

πατήρ

But

δέ

when he

αὐτός

was yet

ἔτι

a great way

μακράν

off,

ἀπέχω

his

αὐτός

father

πατήρ

saw

οἶδα

him,

αὐτός

and

καί

had compassion,

σπλαγχνίζομαι

and

καί

ran,

τρέχω

and fell

ἐπιπίπτω

on

ἐπί

his

αὐτός

neck,

τράχηλος

and

καί

kissed

καταφιλέω

him.

And

δέ

the son

υἱός

said

unto him,

αὐτός

Father,

πατήρ

I have sinned

ἁμαρτάνω

against

εἰς

heaven,

οὐρανός

and

καί

in

ἐνώπιον

thy

σοῦ

sight,

ἐνώπιον

and

καί

am

εἰμί

no more

οὐκέτι

worthy

ἄξιος

to be called

καλέω

thy

σοῦ

son.

But

δέ

the father

πατήρ

said

to

πρός

his

αὐτός

servants,

δοῦλος

Bring forth

ἐκφέρω

the best

πρῶτος

robe,

στολή

and

καί

put it on

ἐνδύω

him;

αὐτός

and

καί

put

δίδωμι

a ring

δακτύλιος

on

εἰς

his

αὐτός

hand,

χείρ

and

καί

shoes

ὑπόδημα

on

εἰς

his feet:

πούς

And

καί

bring hither

φέρω

the fatted

σιτευτός

calf,

μόσχος

and kill

θύω

it; and

καί

let us eat,

φάγω

and be merry:

εὐφραίνω

For

ὅτι

this

οὗτος

my

μοῦ

son

υἱός

was

ἦν

dead,

νεκρός

and

καί

is alive again;

ἀναζάω

καί

he was

ἦν

lost,

ἀπόλλυμι

and

καί

is found.

εὑρίσκω

And

καί

they began

ἄρχομαι

to be merry.

εὐφραίνω

Now

his

αὐτός

elder

πρεσβύτερος

son

υἱός

was

ἦν

in

ἐν

the field:

ἀγρός

and

καί

as

ὡς

he came

ἔρχομαι

and drew nigh

ἐγγίζω

to the house,

οἰκία

he heard

ἀκούω

musick

συμφωνία

and

καί

dancing.

χορός

And

he called

προσκαλέω

one

εἷς

of the servants,

παῖς

and asked

πυνθάνομαι

what

τίς

these things

ταῦτα

meant.

εἴην

And

δέ

he said

unto him,

αὐτός

ὅτι

Thy

σοῦ

brother

ἀδελφός

is come;

ἥκω

and

καί

thy

σοῦ

father

πατήρ

hath killed

θύω

the fatted

σιτευτός

calf,

μόσχος

because

ὅτι

he hath received

ἀπολαμβάνω

him

αὐτός

safe and sound.

ὑγιαίνω

And

δέ

he was angry,

ὀργίζω

and

καί

would

θέλω

not

οὐ

go in:

εἰσέρχομαι

therefore

οὖν

came

ἐξέρχομαι

his

αὐτός

father

πατήρ

out,

ἐξέρχομαι

and intreated

παρακαλέω

him.

αὐτός

And

δέ

he answering

ἀποκρίνομαι

said

to his father,

πατήρ

Lo,

ἰδού

these many

τοσοῦτος

years

ἔτος

do I serve

δουλεύω

thee,

σοί

neither

οὐδέποτε

transgressed I

παρέρχομαι

at any time

οὐδέποτε

thy

σοῦ

commandment:

ἐντολή

and

καί

yet

καί

thou

δίδωμι

never

οὐδέποτε

gavest

δίδωμι

me

ἐμοί

a kid,

ἔριφος

that

ἵνα

I might make merry

εὐφραίνω

with

μετά

my

μοῦ

friends:

φίλος

But

δέ

as soon as

ὅτε

this

οὗτος

thy

σοῦ

son

υἱός

was come,

ἔρχομαι

which

ὁ

hath devoured

κατεσθίω

thy

σοῦ

living

βίος

with

μετά

harlots,

πόρνη

thou hast killed

θύω

for him

αὐτός

the fatted

σιτευτός

calf.

And

δέ

he said

unto him,

αὐτός

Son,

τέκνον

thou

σύ

art

εἶ

ever

πάντοτε

with

μετά

me,

ἐμοῦ

and

καί

all

πᾶς

that I have

ἐμός

is

ἐστί

thine.

It was

δέ

meet

δεῖ

that we should make merry,

εὐφραίνω

and

καί

be glad:

χαίρω

for

ὅτι

this

οὗτος

thy

σοῦ

brother

ἀδελφός

was

ἦν

dead,

νεκρός

and

καί

is alive again;

ἀναζάω

and

καί

was

ἦν

lost,

ἀπόλλυμι

and

καί

is found.

εὑρίσκω
