The scribes

the Pharisees

Moses'

seat:

καθέδρα

therefore

whatsoever

ἄν

ὅσος

they bid

you

ὑμῖν

observe,

τηρέω

that observe

τηρέω

and

καί

do;

ποιέω

but

δέ

do

ποιέω

not

μή

ye after

κατά

their

αὐτός

works:

ἔργον

for

γάρ

they say,

λέγω

and

καί

do

ποιέω

not.

οὐ

they bind

δεσμεύω

heavy

βαρύς

burdens

φορτίον

and

καί

grievous to be borne,

δυσβάστακτος

and

καί

lay

ἐπιτίθημι

them on

ἐπί

men's

ἄνθρωπος

shoulders;

ὦμος

but

δέ

they themselves will

θέλω

not

οὐ

move

κινέω

them

αὐτός

with one of their

αὐτός

fingers.

greetings

ἀσπασμός

ἐν

the markets,

ἀγορά

to be called

men,

ye

masters:

even Christ.

he that is greatest

among you

ὑμῶν

shall be

ἔσομαι

your

ὑμῶν

servant.

whosoever

ὅστις

shall exalt

ὑψόω

himself

ἑαυτοῦ

shall be abased;

ταπεινόω

and

he

ὅστις

that shall humble

ταπεινόω

himself

ἑαυτοῦ

shall be exalted.

unto you,

scribes

γραμματεύς

Pharisees,

Φαρισαῖος

hypocrites!

ὑποκριτής

for

ὅτι

ye shut up

κλείω

the kingdom

βασιλεία

of heaven

οὐρανός

against

ἔμπροσθεν

men:

ἄνθρωπος

for

γάρ

ye

ὑμεῖς

neither

οὐδέ

go in

εἰσέρχομαι

yourselves, neither

οὐ

suffer ye

ἀφίημι

them that are entering

εἰσέρχομαι

to go in.

εἰσέρχομαι

scribes

γραμματεύς

Pharisees,

hypocrites!

ὑποκριτής

for

ὅτι

ye devour

κατεσθίω

widows'

χήρα

houses,

οἰκία

and

καί

for a pretence

πρόφασις

make

προσεύχομαι

long

μακρός

prayer:

προσεύχομαι

therefore

διά

τοῦτο

ye shall receive

λαμβάνω

the greater

περισσότερος

damnation.

Woe

unto you,

ὑμῖν

scribes

γραμματεύς

and

Pharisees,

Φαρισαῖος

hypocrites!

ὑποκριτής

for

ὅτι

ye compass

περιάγω

sea

θάλασσα

and

καί

land

ξηρός

to make

ποιέω

one

εἷς

proselyte,

προσήλυτος

and

καί

when

ὅταν

he is made,

γίνομαι

ye make

ποιέω

him

αὐτός

twofold more

διπλοῦς

the child

υἱός

of hell

γέεννα

than yourselves.

ὑμῶν

Woe

οὐαί

unto you,

ὑμῖν

ye blind

τυφλός

guides,

ὁδηγός

which

ὁ

say,

λέγω

Whosoever

ὅς

ἄν

shall swear

ὀμνύω

by

ἐν

the temple,

ναός

it is

ἐστί

nothing;

οὐδείς

but

δέ

whosoever

ὅς

ἄν

shall swear

ὀμνύω

by

ἐν

the gold

χρυσός

of the temple,

ναός

he is a debtor!

greater,

that sanctifieth

ἐν

the altar,

θυσιαστήριον

it is

ἐν

the gift

δῶρον

that is upon

ἐπάνω

it,

αὐτός

he is guilty.

ye pay tithe

ἀποδεκατόω

of mint

ἡδύοσμον

and

καί

anise

ἄνηθον

and

καί

cummin,

κύμινον

and

καί

have omitted

ἀφίημι

the weightier

βαρύς

matters of the law,

νόμος

judgment,

κρίσις

καί

mercy,

ἔλεος

and

καί

faith:

πίστις

these

ταῦτα

ought ye

δεῖ

to have done,

ποιέω

and not

μή

to leave

ἀφίημι

the other

κἀκεῖνος

undone.

Ye blind

τυφλός

guides,

ὁδηγός

which strain at

διϋλίζω

a gnat,

κώνωψ

and

δέ

swallow

καταπίνω

a camel.

Woe

scribes

γραμματεύς

Pharisees,

Φαρισαῖος

hypocrites!

ὑποκριτής

for

ὅτι

ye make clean

καθαρίζω

the outside

ἔξωθεν

of the cup

ποτήριον

and

καί

of the platter,

παροψίς

but

δέ

within

ἔσωθεν

they are full

γέμω

of

ἐκ

extortion

ἁρπαγή

and

καί

excess.

ἀκρασία

Thou blind

τυφλός

Pharisee,

Φαρισαῖος

cleanse

καθαρίζω

first

πρῶτον

that which is within

ἐντός

the cup

ποτήριον

and

καί

platter,

παροψίς

that

ἵνα

the outside

ἐκτός

of them

αὐτός

may be

γίνομαι

clean

καθαρός

also.

καί

Woe

οὐαί

unto you,

ὑμῖν

scribes

γραμματεύς

and

Pharisees,

Φαρισαῖος

hypocrites!

ὑποκριτής

for

ὅτι

ye are like

παρομοιάζω

unto whited

κονιάω

sepulchres,

τάφος

which

ὅστις

indeed

μέν

appear

φαίνω

beautiful

ὡραῖος

outward,

ἔξωθεν

but

δέ

are within

ἔσωθεν

full

γέμω

of dead

νεκρός

men's bones,

ὀστέον

and

καί

of all

πᾶς

uncleanness.

ἀκαθαρσία

Even so

οὕτως

ye

ὑμεῖς

also

καί

μέν

outwardly

ἔξωθεν

appear

φαίνω

righteous

δίκαιος

unto men,

ἄνθρωπος

but

δέ

within

ἔσωθεν

ye are

ἐστέ

full

μεστός

of hypocrisy

ὑπόκρισις

and

καί

iniquity.

Woe

unto you,

ὑμῖν

scribes

γραμματεύς

and

Pharisees,

Φαρισαῖος

hypocrites!

ὑποκριτής

because

ὅτι

ye build

οἰκοδομέω

the tombs

τάφος

of the prophets,

προφήτης

and

καί

garnish

κοσμέω

the sepulchres

μνημεῖον

of the righteous,

δίκαιος

And

say,

λέγω

If

εἰ

we had been

ἦν

in

ἐν

the days

ἡμέρα

of our

ἡμῶν

fathers,

πατήρ

we would

ἄν

not

οὐ

have been

ἦν

partakers

κοινωνός

with them

αὐτός

in

ἐν

the blood

αἷμα

of the prophets.

Wherefore

ye be witnesses

unto yourselves,

ye are

of them which killed

the measure

μέτρον

of your

ὑμῶν

fathers.

Ye serpents,

ye generation

of vipers,

how

can ye

φεύγω

escape

ἀπό

the damnation

κρίσις

of hell?

Wherefore,

behold,

send

ἀποστέλλω

unto

you

ὑμᾶς

prophets,

προφήτης

and

wise men,

σοφός

and

καί

scribes:

γραμματεύς

καί

some of

ἐκ

them

αὐτός

ye shall kill

ἀποκτείνω

and

καί

crucify;

σταυρόω

and

καί

some of

ἐκ

them

αὐτός

shall ye scourge

μαστιγόω

in

ἐν

your

ὑμῶν

synagogues,

συναγωγή

and

persecute

διώκω

them from

ἀπό

city

to

henceforth,

ye shall say,

Blessed

εὐλογέω

is he that cometh

ἔρχομαι

in

the name

ὄνομα

of the Lord.
